Happy New Years! Do you have a list of resolutions for 2022? Why not make one of them improving your dental health?
Here are a few things you can work on implementing to prevent tooth, gum and other oral health issues, and create a healthier, happier smile.
- Drink more water. Staying hydrated is a key component to a healthy mouth! Drinking water rinses away bacteria and food debris, helps restore enamel, fight dry mouth and more. Aim to drink half of your body weight in ounces a day!
- Keep up on your cleaning techniques. Brushing twice and flossing once — at the least – every day is essential in fighting against cavities, removing plaque buildup and more. Do you need to brush up on your technique? Don’t be afraid to ask about proper brushing and flossing methods, and be sure to keep this a daily habit to ensure your teeth, tongue and gums stay clean!
- Eat more fruits and veggies. Eating healthier is a top New Year’s Resolution for most people, but did you know it plays a huge role in your oral health too? Incorporate crisp fruits and veggies to help keep your breath and teeth clean and fresh, and try cutting back on acidic, sugary food and drinks, which can damage your enamel, weaken teeth and lead to decay and diseases!
- Schedule regular dental visits. When’s the last time you had a dentist appointment? The American Dental Association recommend visiting the dentist twice a year (about every 6 months). Start the New Year right with a routine dental visit to get a thorough cleaning and check for any existing or potential issues you can take care of right away.
